10 Children Lose One or Both of Their Legs Every Day in Gaza, Says UNRWA

Chief of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini affirmed that 10 children lose one or both of their legs every day in the Gaza Strip.

Lazzarini cited a report published by the Save The Children non-governmental organization which asserted that up to 21,000 children are reported missing since the beginning of the war in Gaza, either buried under rubble, captured, buried in unmarked graves, or lost contact with their families and relatives.

He reiterated warnings that UNRWA’s funding will run out by the end of August, stressing that the agency needs $140 million to continue operations until the end of the year, voicing his concern over the silent war in the West Bank. He highlighted that the intense Israeli military operations in the IDPs’ camps have become striking.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the Israeli occupation’s offensive in Gaza since Oct. 7 has risen to 37,658 martyrs, with 86,237 injured, mostly children and women, in a preliminary toll,
as thousands of victims are still under the rubble. Moreover, cities, towns, and refugee camps in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem witness daily raids and incursions into villages and towns by Israeli army and settlers. These actions are accompanied by confrontations, assassinations, arrests, live ammunition, rubber bullets, and the use of toxic gas bombs against Palestinian youth. The intensity of these campaigns has increased concurrently with the unprecedented and ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza.
