Ramallah: The Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate reported Sunday that 193 journalists have been slain by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip since the onset of the offensive in the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023.

According to Qatar News Agency, the annual Freedom Conference held at the Syndicate’s headquarters in Ramallah was addressed by Nasser Abu Bakr, Head of the Syndicate. He stated that despite facing killings, destruction, and slaughter, journalists have successfully triggered international public opinion by conveying the truth to the world with resilience and professionalism.

Head of the Syndicate’s Freedom Committee, Mohammad Al Laham, presented the committee’s annual report during the conference. He highlighted that 86 journalists were injured by live ammunition and rocket shrapnel. Additionally, there have been 64 arrest cases against journalists in Gaza and the West Bank. The report also noted the destruction of 54 media institutions, either entirely or partially, along with incidents of seizure and vandalism.

Al Laham further added that the Israeli occupation forces have employed armored vehicles in attempts to run over journalists. The year 2024 has seen an overwhelming surge in firing incidents aimed at terrorizing and dissuading journalists from covering the events. Furthermore, 148 incidents have been recorded in which journalists were wounded, with 85 incidents involving journalists being traumatized by inhaling poisonous tear gases.
