Doha: An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter Scale struck Papua New Guinea on Tuesday.
According to Qatar News Agency, the earthquake’s epicenter was located 127 km west of Kokopo, at a depth of 68.2 km, as reported by the US Geological Survey (USGS).
Papua New Guinea is situated in the so-called Ring of Fire, a region that extends along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, known for its high seismic and volcanic activity. This region includes 90% of the active volcanoes in the world.
