5.3-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Indonesia’s Papua Province

Doha: An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit on Sunday Papua province, eastern Indonesia. The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency stated that the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 100 km from the city of Sarmi, at a depth of 20 km.

According to Qatar News Agency, Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
