5.3-Magnitude Quake Hits China’s Xinjiang

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake jolted Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Thursday.

The China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) said in a statement that the epicenter was monitored at 41.11 degrees north latitude and 78.53 degrees east longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 10 km, the CENC added.

There have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake so far.

China usually suffers from earthquakes and strong tremors, especially in the mountainous areas in the west of the country.
