5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Coast of Vanuatu

An earthquake measuring 5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Thursday the coast of Vanuatu island in the South Pacific Ocean.

The earthquake occurred 46 km from Sola village on the island, at a depth of 10 km, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

So far, there were no reports of casualties or material losses due to the earthquake.

Vanuatu Island, an archipelago of volcanic origin in the South Pacific Ocean, is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where tectonic plates meet and their friction with each other leads to seismic activity.
