6.5-Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Colombian Capital

Bogota: A 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck the Colombian capital, Bogota, and other cities in the center of the country. Colombia’s national geological survey (SEN) reported that the earthquake occurred approximately 187 kilometers from the capital, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

According to Qatar News Agency, there have been no reports of casualties or damage from the earthquake so far. The seismic event has brought back memories of the devastating 1999 earthquake that struck Colombia. That 6.1-magnitude earthquake left 1,185 people dead and 700 others missing, with at least 4,750 injured and around 250,000 displaced. The city of Armenia was the hardest hit during the 1999 disaster.

Residents in Bogota and surrounding areas remain vigilant as assessments continue to ensure the safety and structural integrity of buildings and infrastructure. Emergency services are on alert, ready to respond to any aftershocks or subsequent reports of damage.
