6.9-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Central Philippines Coast

Doha: A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the central Philippines coast Tuesday evening.

According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was located about 11 km southeast of Calape, Bohol province, which has a population of approximately 33,000.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported that there was no threat of tsunami waves. Earthquakes are a common occurrence in the Philippines, which is located on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an area prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity.
