The President of the Comoros, Chairperson of the African Union for 2023 Azali Assoumani affirmed the Union’s aspiration for stability in Sudan, as well as its support for the ongoing negotiations in the Saudi city of Jeddah to stop the fighting between the two parties to the conflict, and to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.

This came during a phone call Assoumani held today with Chairperson of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Lt. General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan.

During the call, the African Union Chair said that he will send a special envoy to Jeddah to help reach an agreement that would end the crisis and restore stability to Sudan.

The city of Jeddah is hosting representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, with the aim of preparing the ground for talks to reduce the tension in Sudan as a result of the confrontations that broke out on April 15 between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.
