The National Security Adviser, Qassem Al-Araji, stressed the need to complete building Iraqi capabilities in the field of investigation and documentation, in coordination with the international team.
And the chancellery said in a statement: “Al-Araji received in his office today, the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, concerned with collecting and documenting evidence of the condemnation of the terrorist ISIS, Christian Richter, and his accompanying delegation.”
Richter reviewed the efforts of the international team to collect and document evidence of the condemnation of the terrorist ISIS during the last period, according to the rules of jurisdiction contained in UN Security Council Resolution No. (2379) of 2017.
The meeting also witnessed a discussion of the continuation of cooperation between the United Nations and the Iraqi government through the Steering Committee, and ways to enhance this cooperation, especially with the security services specialized in detecting ISIS terrorist crimes.
Al-Araji stressed the need to complete the collection and documentation of evidence by the international team, in coordination with the security services, other competent authorities, and the Judicial Council, so that the international team could hand Iraq those evidence, to complete the trial of ISIS terrorist elements, and ensure they do not escape punishment, Stressing the importance of intensifying efforts to uncover the crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity committed by ISIS, and to return all abducted women, especially Yazidis and Turkmen women, to their families, and to hold those who committed these crimes accountable.
Al-Araji also stressed the need to complete the building of Iraqi capacities in the field of investigation and documentation, in coordination with the international team.
For his part, Richer indicated that the efforts of the international team are a continuation of the investigative efforts undertaken by the Iraqi security and judicial services, and the team is determined to support these efforts, to enhance procedures for holding ISIS terrorist elements accountable in accordance with Iraqi national laws, stressing the continuation of the United Nations to provide support and expertise to the Iraqi institutions, appreciating the cooperation of the Iraqi government and the Supreme Judicial Council in making the mission of the international team a success.
