Al-Ghazi Confirms To The Red Cross Mission The Government’s Keenness To Enhance Humanitarian And Relief Work

The Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Hamid Naim Al-Ghazi, met in his private office, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Iraq, Jean-Jerome Casabianca.

A statement by the Al-Ghazi office stated that coordination and joint cooperation between the relevant government institutions were discussed, with regard to the activities carried out by the mission in a number of Iraqi cities. ?

Al-Ghazi affirmed the government’s keenness to support all efforts aimed at enhancing humanitarian and relief work, including the Red Cross programs related to the dissemination of the principles of international and humanitarian law, especially those related to the file of the integration of the displaced returning to their liberated cities.

For his part, Casabianca gave a briefing on the history of the Red Cross mission in Iraq and its contribution to several files, including the file of the missing and the displaced, in addition to following up on the application of human rights principles guaranteed by the Iraqi constitution in prisons and correctional and rehabilitation centers affiliated to the Ministry of Justice, in terms of health and humanitarian standards, in accordance with international standards. ?

He added, “The mission focused its future efforts towards technical development of workers, and providing vocational training in a number of physical, health and psychological rehabilitation centers for beneficiaries with disabilities in three governorates (Erbil, Baghdad, and Dhi Qar). Future visions also included the inclusion of the climate change file in programs and activities of the mission, in addition to working with the Iraqi government on developing laws for the families of the missing, and working to verify the fate of the missing in coordination with the Ministry of Health and forensic medicine departments.
