Doha: Al Noor Center for the Blind, a member of the Qatar Social Work Foundation, has launched its annual awareness events in celebration of World Sight Day and White Cane Safety Day. The activities are being held at a special interactive booth in Vendome Mall, featuring educational and engaging experiences designed to raise awareness about eye health and the lived experiences of individuals with visual impairments.

According to Qatar News Agency, this year’s booth includes a dedicated interactive path that allows visitors to simulate the use of a white cane, with clearly defined start and end points offering an immersive and enlightening experience. The exhibit also delivers key awareness messages on the importance of vision, early detection of eye conditions, and the challenges faced by blind and visually impaired individuals.

In addition, the booth showcases the latest tools and assistive technologies used to support people with visual impairments. Visitors can also learn about the various services offered by the center that aim to empower individuals with blindness and promote their independence and integration into society.

Speaking to the press, Executive Director of Al Noor Center for the Blind, Mishal Abdullah Al Nuaimi emphasized that this year’s booth is designed to provide a deeper, more interactive understanding of the realities faced by people with visual disabilities. He highlighted the importance of regular eye check-ups and public education on eye care.

Al Nuaimi noted that the initiative reflects the center’s commitment to developing innovative community awareness strategies while focusing on empowering the visually impaired and enhancing their self-confidence and autonomy.

The program includes workshops and interactive educational competitions aimed at reinforcing the concept of social inclusion, showcasing the significance of the white cane as a symbol of independence, and encouraging proactive eye care to support the full participation of blind individuals in society.
