Algeria Qualify for 2026 FIFA World Cup with Win Over Somalia

Algiers: Algeria have officially secured their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a 3-0 victory over Somalia in the penultimate round of the African qualifiers.

According to Qatar News Agency, two goals from Mohamed Amoura (6′, 58′) and a strike from Riyad Mahrez (19′) sealed the win for the Desert Foxes, who now sit top of Group G with 22 points, four clear of second-placed Uganda.

This will mark Algeria’s fifth appearance at the World Cup finals, having previously qualified in 1982, 1986, 2010, and 2014. The team narrowly missed out on the Qatar 2022 edition, after a dramatic late defeat to Cameroon in the playoffs.

With their qualification, Algeria become the fourth Arab nation from Africa to book a spot at the 2026 tournament, joining Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt. The tournament will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
