Arab League Condemns US Veto on Gaza Ceasefire Resolution.

Riyadh: The Arab League have condemned the United States’ use of its veto power at the UN Security Council to block a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and the urgent entry of humanitarian aid, a measure supported by 14 member states.

According to Qatar News Agency, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit described the US position as internationally isolated and both politically and morally indefensible. He said the veto effectively serves as a green light for Israel to continue its violent campaign against Palestinian civilians in Gaza. This includes the use of starvation as a weapon and the forced displacement of civilians within the Strip, particularly targeting the depopulation of its northern regions.

Aboul Gheit stressed that by wielding its veto, the United States is perpetuating global inaction in addressing one of the bloodiest conflicts in the region. He argued that this stance emboldens the Israeli occupation to persist in its war, advancing the agenda of the extreme Israeli rig
ht, including plans for annexation and re-settlement.

The US veto, the fourth against resolutions seeking to halt the aggression in Gaza, exacerbates the Security Council’s failure to uphold its responsibility for maintaining international peace and security. It also undermines the credibility of the United Nations system and erodes trust in its ability to mediate and resolve conflicts, he said.

US vetoed a resolution, submitted by the Council’s ten elected members, that called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, along with the unconditional release of all hostages.
