Arab League Strongly Denounces Israeli Actions in Occupied Palestinian Territories

Cairo: The Arab League has expressed its condemnation of decisions made by Israel's security cabinet aimed at altering the legal and administrative status of the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly the West Bank.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Arab League issued a statement highlighting that these actions represent an escalation in annexation and colonization plans, threatening agreements between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Israel, including the Oslo Accords. The statement criticized the lifting of confidentiality on land records, the seizure of Palestinian properties, and the transfer of planning powers in Hebron to Israeli authorities, labeling these as violations of international law and United Nations resolutions.

The Arab League emphasized that these measures contravene the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion, which underscores the illegality of annexing occupied territories. The organization also condemned Israel's oversight on Palestinian buildings under the guise of heritage protection, calling it a pretext for demolition and land seizure.

Furthermore, the Arab League warned against altering the status of Islamic and Christian sites, rejecting any violations of the Ibrahimi Mosque. It held the Israeli authorities accountable for escalating tensions at sacred sites and reaffirmed that the West Bank remains occupied Palestinian territory, regardless of unilateral Israeli actions.

The statement called on the international community, especially the Security Council, to fulfill their responsibilities in stopping these actions and protecting Palestinian rights. The Arab League reiterated support for Palestinian self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
