Arab League Welcomes Short-Term Ceasefire Agreement in Sudan

Arab League welcomed the signing of the representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces (RSF), in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on a seven-day short-term ceasefire that will enter into force after 48 hours of its signing, which will facilitate the delivery of emergency humanitarian aid and the restoration of basic services in Sudan.

In a statement on Sunday, spokesman for the Arab League Secretary-General Jamal Rushdie stressed the necessity to fully implement the agreement, noting that the recently concluded Arab League summit in Jeddah has discussed the Sudanese crisis and issued a resolution to support the negotiation talks.

In a joint statement earlier on Saturday, Saudi Arabia and the USA announced the signing of an agreement for a short-term cease-fire and humanitarian arrangements between representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF in Jeddah.

According to the draft press release of the agreement, the duration of the short-term cease-fire is seven days and will enter into force on Monday at 9:45 pm Khartoum local time and can be extended with the consent of the two parties.
