Doha: The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf), represented by the Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance, hosted its annual ceremony at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque to honor 603 outstanding students from Quran learning centers for the years 2023 and 2024. The event, held under the patronage of HE Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanim and attended by HE Undersecretary of the Ministry Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al-Thani, recognized students at various educational levels, including those who completed the full memorization of the Holy Quran.
According to Qatar News Agency, the ceremony also honored 15 outstanding heads of Quran centers and 100 distinguished teachers for their dedication to advancing Quranic education. The event featured Quran recitations by students and a speech by Director of the Department of Da’wah Jassim bin Abdullah Al Ali, who emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing a generation conscious of its Islamic identity. Al Ali highlighted significant achievements, including the graduation of 181 students who memorized the entire Quran and the progression of 422 Qatari students to higher levels of memorization.
The ceremony included a visual presentation showcasing the development of Quran centers, which increased from 132 in 2023 to 148 in 2024, with 116 funded by the Ministry and 32 by private donors. Additionally, 28 Quranic study circles were held in mosques, supervised by 1,016 qualified mosque imams and muezzins. The number of students enrolled in these centers reached approximately 18,994 in 2024, including 2,249 Qatari students.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to providing a stimulating learning environment in Quran education centers, aligning with Qatar’s vision to promote the values of tolerant Islam.
