Awqaf Publishes New Book Showcasing Central Role of Prophetic Sunnah in Islamic Legislation

Doha: The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Department of Islamic Research and Studies, has unveiled a new book emphasizing the significance of the Prophetic Sunnah, the second pivotal source of legislation in Islam following the Holy Qur’an. The book, titled “The Message of the Sunnah,” aims to highlight the integral role of Sunnah in Islamic jurisprudence and practice.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al-Thani, the Director of the Department of Islamic Research and Studies, explained that the book was developed by a team of esteemed professors, researchers, scholars, and thinkers. It serves as a companion to an earlier publication, “The Message of the Holy Qur’an,” whose first edition was released in 2010, coinciding with the completion and distribution of the Qatari Mushaf.

Dr. Ahmed shared that the second edition of the new book was launched this year to meet the demand from readers and intellectuals, as the first edition had sold out. This publication underscores Awqaf’s and the department’s acknowledgment of the profound importance of the Sunnah in Islam and aligns with their broader initiatives to promote and serve the Sunnah across various domains.

Highlighting the academic rigor involved, Dr. Ahmed noted that the research featured in the book underwent thorough peer review based on a set of guiding principles and core concepts crafted by the department. These guidelines provided a structured framework for researchers and authors to engage in scholarly analysis and writing on the Sunnah’s message.

As part of Awqaf’s series of cultural projects, the book delves into the message of the Sunnah across nine vital areas, including Islamic outreach, education, moral development, humanitarian efforts, social cohesion, governance, economic and financial ethics, healthcare ethics, historical studies, and the renewal of Islamic thought. The comprehensive work spans two volumes and 900 pages, contributing significantly to the discourse on Islamic legislation.
