Belgium to Recognize State of Palestine During UN General Assembly Meetings

Belgium: Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Prevot announced on Tuesday that Belgium will recognize the State of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly meetings. ‘Palestine will be recognized by Belgium at the UN session! And firm sanctions will be imposed against the Israeli government,’ Prevot said on the social media platform X.

According to Qatar News Agency, the announcement marks a significant diplomatic move as Belgium plans to formally acknowledge Palestinian statehood. The decision is expected to have implications on Belgium’s foreign policy, particularly in relation to its stance on the Middle East conflict. The statement also suggests the introduction of sanctions targeting the Israeli government, indicating a shift in Belgium’s approach to its bilateral relations with Israel.
