Cabinet Approves Key Draft Laws and Decisions in Weekly Meeting

Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting at the Amiri Diwan on Wednesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi provided details of the discussions and approvals made during the session.

The Cabinet began by commending the successful talks between HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his visit to Qatar. The discussions underscored the robust relationship and strategic partnership between the two nations, with mutual interests in regional and global security, stability of supply chains, and the uninterrupted flow of global energy through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Cabinet reviewed and acknowledged the Shura Council's approval of a draft law amending provisions of the Labour Law issued by Law No. 14 of 2004. This amendment, developed by the Ministry of Labour, is part of an initiative to evolve the labour market system, adapting to economic and social changes. The revisions focus on improving the resolution of labour disputes, aiming for balance and stability in the work environment, aligning with the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030.

Additionally, the Cabinet sanctioned a draft law for the unified system of volunteer work in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, forwarding it to the Shura Council. Proposed by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, the law aims to enhance social responsibility, foster a volunteering culture, and regulate volunteer efforts on solid institutional grounds. This is in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy's goals to strengthen social cohesion and increase volunteerism.

The Cabinet also approved a draft decision by the Minister of Municipality to update some provisions of Decision No. 7 of 1989 concerning architectural conditions and technical specifications for buildings. Prepared by the Ministry of Municipality, this decision is part of a national strategy on housing policies and urban planning, aiming to improve life quality and urban well-being in residential areas while maintaining safety and environmental sustainability standards.

Concluding the meeting, the Cabinet reviewed three reports and made appropriate decisions: the 2025 annual report on the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, outcomes from the Sixth Arab Ministerial Forum on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, and the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction in Doha. They also reviewed a report on Qatar's participation in the Middle East Green Initiative's second Ministerial Council meeting in Jeddah.
