Cabinet Commends HH the Amir’s Participation in G20 Summit.

Doha: HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet’s regular meeting held at its seat at the Amiri Diwan on Wednesday morning.

According to Qatar News Agency, HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi stated that the Cabinet applauded the outcome of the 10th session of the Qatari-Turkish Supreme Strategic Committee. This session, co-chaired by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on November 14, 2024, focused on the strategic relations between Qatar and Turkiye. The discussions covered significant regional and international developments, including the situation in the Gaza Strip, the occupied Palestinian territories, and Lebanon.

The Cabinet emphasized the productive discussions during the 10th session of the Qatari-Turkish Supreme Strategic Committee. The spirit of brotherhood, the signed agreements and memora
nda of understanding, and the joint statement issued at the conclusion underscored the strong relations between the two countries. The Cabinet noted a shared aspiration to enhance bilateral cooperation across various fields, reinforcing their strategic partnership to elevate relations for the benefit of their peoples and to contribute to regional and global peace and stability.

Additionally, the Cabinet commended HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s participation in the G20 Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The summit, themed ‘Building a Fairer World and a Sustainable Planet,’ saw the participation of HH the Amir upon the invitation of HE President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The Cabinet highlighted that this invitation reflects Qatar’s esteemed status and its active role in promoting peace and development on the global stage.

The Cabinet also recognized HH the Amir’s role in honoring winners of the 8th edition of the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excel
lence Award. The award ceremony, held in San Jose, Costa Rica, was organized in cooperation with the UN and attended by HE First Vice President of Costa Rica Stephan Brunner Neibig. The Cabinet noted the award’s global significance in promoting the culture of combating corruption, advancing good governance, and enhancing transparency.

During the meeting, the Cabinet approved a draft law to extend the concession granted to Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani) and referred it to the Shura Council. It also agreed in principle to establish an office for organizing conferences, replacing the Permanent Committee for Organizing Conferences.

Further, the Cabinet endorsed a proposal by HE Minister of Labor to establish the Qatar award for localization in the private sector. This initiative aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy, aiming to empower citizens and promote positive competition among private sector establishments in job localization.

Additionally, the Cabinet
approved the Ministry of Transport’s proposal to exempt Qatari students at the Qatar Aeronautical Academy from tuition fees, supporting the aviation industry and preparing national cadres for the labor market.

The Cabinet agreed to ratify an MoU between the Qatar Central Bank and the Saudi Central Bank for joint cooperation in central banking. It also approved a draft agreement with Nigeria on economic, trade, and technical cooperation and a draft MoU with the UK for enhancing security cooperation.

Further MoUs included cultural cooperation with Somalia and youth cooperation with Rwanda. The Cabinet also approved an MoU on preventing and combating corruption with Jordan and an executive program in sports and youth with El Salvador for 2024-2025.

The meeting concluded with the review of four reports, including the outcomes of the National Committee for Prohibition of Weapons and the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, and reports on Qatar’s participation in international forums. The Cabinet took
appropriate decisions regarding these reports.
