New york: Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of People’s Republic of China Ma Zhaoxu today called for strengthening the role of the United Nations, stressing that its position should be supported, not replaced, at a time when the global arena is facing increasing crises.
According to Qatar News Agency, Ma Zhaoxu said at a press conference that major crises in recent years have clearly demonstrated that the United Nations must play a stronger role, stressing that its effectiveness depends on member states’ commitment to the organization’s charter and compliance with international law and the basic norms governing relations between states.
The Chinese Vice Foreign Minister pointed to the need for reforms within the United Nations to help it better address global challenges, calling in particular for strengthening the representation of developing countries and raising their voices on international issues.
