Some members of the US Congress called on President Joe Biden to inform Congress of the strategy towards Ukraine, and possible negotiations with Russia to end the conflict.
The Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee in the US House of Representatives, Michael McCaul, and Senator Jim Risch, believe that the White House has failed to formulate a strategy to help Kiev that gives priority to American interests.
The two members of Congress expressed concern about reports of alleged secret discussions with Russian officials from which Ukrainian officials were excluded.
A letter sent by these two members to Biden stated: “You must inform us of your administration’s strategy for successfully ending the war, and of all your measures to interact with Russia.”
The letter also asked to determine what a “Ukraine victory” and a “Russia defeat” would look like.
The two members of Congress stressed the need for the White House to respond to their questions no later than November 6.
It is noteworthy that Russia had previously sent a memorandum to NATO countries, warning of the consequences of supplying weapons to Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated that any shipment containing weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russian forces, and stressed that the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine, “not only by supplying weapons, but also by training Ukrainian military personnel.”
