Doha 2026 Gulf Games Schedule Approved as Qatar Prepares to Host Regional Event

Doha: Organizers of the 4th GCC Games in Doha have approved the full competition schedule for the multi-sport event, which is set to begin on May 11 with participation from all six Gulf Co-operation Council nations. Athletes will compete across 17 sports during the tournament, including handball, athletics, swimming, volleyball, taekwondo, karate, boxing, fencing, shooting, and basketball 3x3.

According to Qatar News Agency, events will be staged at 10 venues across Doha equipped with modern sporting facilities, including Aspire Dome, the Hamad Aquatic Center, Lusail Shooting Range, and Al Duhail Sports Hall. Swimming competitions are scheduled to begin on May 12 at the Hamad Aquatic Center and will run for four days. Basketball 3x3 matches will also start on the same day at Al Gharafa Sports Club.

Aspire Dome will host both taekwondo and table tennis events, while billiards and snooker competitions will take place at the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation Hall. Equestrian events are due to begin on May 13 at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, alongside the start of fencing, boxing, and shooting competitions.

Athletics events will commence on May 14 at Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium and continue for four days, while the handball tournament will run until the closing day of the Games on May 22. Volleyball and padel competitions are set to start on May 16, while archery events begin on May 17 at the Lusail Shooting Range. Karate competitions will conclude the sporting program on May 21 at Aspire Dome.

The Gulf Games are one of the region's largest multi-sport gatherings and form part of broader efforts among Gulf states to strengthen sporting co-operation and athlete development.
