Mohammed Abdullah bin Mutlaq Al Ghafli, UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, visited the headquarters of the training camp for Indonesian athletes participating in the Special Olympics World Games, which will take place in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi from 14th to 21st March.
Al Ghafli was received by Prof. Dr. Faisal Abdullah, Board Chair of the Special Olympics Indonesia, along with representatives from the Indonesian Special Olympics team.
During the visit, the Ambassador gave an encouraging speech to the athletes, noting that the UAE is honoured to host the 2019 Special Olympics World Games.
For his part, the Chairman of the Indonesian Special Olympics Committee praised the visit of Ambassador Al-Ghafli and its positive impact on raising the spirits of the players and expressed his gratitude for the great efforts made by the UAE to host the Special Olympics 2019.
The Indonesian Special Olympics team consists of 98 athletes who will compete in 11 sporting categories. The team is scheduled to leave for Abu Dhabi on Friday.
More than 7,000 athletes from 170 countries will compete in 24 summer sports, along with 2,500 coaches and 20,000 volunteers. These will be the first Special Olympics World Games in the Middle East and North Africa region.
