The UAE National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking praised the donation of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), which provided prosthetic limbs to several victims of human trafficking who have taken refuge at the Ewa’a Shelter for Male Human Trafficking Victims in Abu Dhabi, and paid for emergency medical services and legal, psychological and social support.
In his speech during a press conference that was held by the UAE Embassy in Islamabad, with the attendance of Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al Zaabi, UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, and Aamir Mehmood Kiani, Pakistani Minister of Health, to announce the initiative, Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Jarman, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Human Rights Affairs and International Cooperation and Deputy Chairman of the UAE National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, said that the donation is not new for Sheikha Fatima, who supports the needy and aims to ease their plight on local, regional and international levels, which will give them optimism and hope and return their normal living conditions, which was reflected during the ceremony to provide prosthetic limbs to male victims, which is the first to be held in the country.
The ceremony also highlighted the ability of the Ewa’a Shelters to employ, with professionalism, its expertise in providing shelter and rehabilitation services.
He also highlighted the UAE’s local, regional and international efforts to combat human trafficking, as well as the necessity of forming international partnerships to combat this cross-border crime.
