Cairo: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone conversation with his US counterpart, Marco Rubio, to discuss the American ceasefire proposal put forward by President Donald Trump.
According to Qatar News Agency, the proposal aims at ending the war in Gaza, securing the release of hostages, ensuring humanitarian aid access, and preventing annexation or forced displacement. Abdelatty welcomed President Trump’s efforts to end the conflict and expressed Egypt’s hope for a swift cessation of hostilities, the restoration of calm, and stability in the region.
He highlighted the urgent need for comprehensive humanitarian aid to tackle the worsening crisis in Gaza, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and preventing any annexation of the West Bank. Abdelatty also firmly opposed any efforts to displace the Palestinian population.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of establishing a political horizon based on the two-state solution, ensuring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state, as essential for long-term peace and security.
Rubio reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to continued and intensified coordination with Egypt in the coming period, with the shared aim of ending the war in Gaza.
