Doha: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty expressed on Thursday hope that reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza would mark the end of a dark and painful chapter in the region’s history that has persisted for two consecutive years, compounding the Palestinian people’s suffering over the past eight decades. In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, during phone calls he received from his counterparts in Arab, Islamic, African, European, and Asian countries, expressed hope that the agreement would open a new chapter in the region, one in which the Palestinian and Israeli people enjoy security and stability, opening the door to a just and lasting peace between them.

According to Qatar News Agency, the ministers expressed their warm welcome for the ceasefire agreement reached in Gaza in accordance with US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, and their deep appreciation for the role played by the Egyptian leadership in facilitating the negotiations and reaching this historic agreement that aims to end the war in the Gaza Strip. In addition to ensuring the sparing of innocent Palestinian blood, the release of hostages and a number of Palestinian detainees, and the entry of humanitarian relief and medical aid into the Gaza Strip in the required quantities, in preparation for the reconstruction of the Strip while Palestinians remain on their land.
