Copenhagen: The European Union (EU) expressed Friday its readiness to train Ukrainian forces after the war between Moscow and Kyiv ceases. The EU’s foreign policy chief Kaya Kallas made this announcement following an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in the Danish capital.
According to Qatar News Agency, Kallas stated that the bloc is prepared to train the Ukrainian army in Ukraine after a ceasefire or a peace agreement ending the war with Russia. She pointed out that the EU, having already trained more than 80,000 Ukrainian soldiers, must be ready to expand its efforts, potentially by deploying EU trainers in Ukraine.
Kallas highlighted the broad support from EU countries for this expansion of the current mandate of the EU military mission in Ukraine. She emphasized that all bloc countries, except Hungary, are in favor of this approach.
Europeans are working towards providing security guarantees for Ukraine following a possible cessation of hostilities. The EU plans to contribute by enhancing its mission to train Ukrainian soldiers, thereby strengthening Ukraine’s security framework.
