EU High Representative Calls for Suspension of Political Dialogue with Israeli Entity.

Brussels: The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, announced his intention to propose the suspension of political dialogue with the Israeli entity in light of the ongoing situation in Gaza and the violations being committed by Israel.

According to Qatar News Agency, Borrell spoke to journalists prior to a meeting of EU foreign ministers, expressing concern over the failure to halt the conflict in Gaza. He emphasized the need to exert pressure on both the Israeli government and Hamas to bring about a resolution. Borrell acknowledged that many efforts have been made to stop the war, but these have not yet succeeded, leaving him with little hope for an immediate resolution.

In response to Borrell’s suggestion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Caspar Veldkamp, expressed a differing view. He emphasized the importance of maintaining diplomatic dialogue with Israel, reflecting the perspective of the Netherlands. Veldkamp highlight
ed the need for the European bloc to keep communication channels open with Israel despite the current tensions.

The situation in Gaza has escalated since October 7, 2023, with Israeli occupation forces conducting a continuous offensive from land, sea, and air. This has resulted in the deaths of 43,846 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and injuries to 103,740 others. The toll is not final as many victims remain trapped under rubble and in streets, with rescue personnel struggling to reach them.
