The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, made phone calls with the foreign ministers of Jordan Ayman Safadi, Turkey Hakan Fidan, and Iran Amir Hussein Abdullahian, and he received a call from the Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan,
During the phone calls, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, efforts were mobilized to hold the Islamic Summit Conference in an emergency meeting at the ministerial level, to discuss the repercussions of repeated insults to the Holy Qur’an, to confront the phenomenon of Islamophobia around the world, and to take the necessary measures collectively in this regard.
According to the statement, the minister briefed his counterparts on the diplomatic measures taken by the Iraqi government, in response to the Swedish government’s repeated permission to burn the Holy Quran, insult Islamic sanctities, and burn the Iraqi flag, noting that such provocative actions offend international conventions and norms, pose a threat to social peace, and incite a culture of violence and hatred.
For their part, the ministers supported Iraq’s position, and its call for holding an Islamic Summit Conference at the ministerial level, to discuss the repercussions of the repeated insults to the Holy Qur’an./ End
