Doha: The GCC Ministerial Council has expressed strong support for Qatar’s mediation efforts and its hosting of the signing ceremony of the Declaration of Principles between the Congo’s government and the March 23 Movement. The Council has also condemned Israel’s actions against humanitarian and UN organizations, emphasizing the Israeli occupation forces’ responsibility to ensure unhindered delivery of essential humanitarian aid to Gaza.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Council highlighted Security Council Resolution 2730 and welcomed statements from the European Union and 26 international partners urging an end to the conflict in Gaza and the removal of restrictions on humanitarian aid. The Council also reaffirmed its backing for Qatar’s mediation role, in coordination with Egypt and the United States, to achieve a ceasefire, release detainees, and ensure aid delivery in Gaza. Additionally, Germany’s suspension of military equipment deliveries to Israel was noted, with calls for the international community to cease military support for Israel.
The Council reiterated its stance on the Palestinian cause, advocating for the establishment of an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. The success of a conference on peaceful solutions and the two-state solution, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, was praised. The Council supports the Global Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution and encourages countries to join this initiative.
Further, the Council commended several countries for recognizing the State of Palestine and called for others to do the same. The Council condemned Israel’s plans regarding the Ibrahimi Mosque and settlement in the “E1” area, as well as the Knesset’s call for sovereignty over the West Bank. The joint statement from Arab and Islamic leaders against the concept of “Greater Israel” was also highlighted as a violation of international standards.
The Ministerial Council voiced concern over settler violence and the displacement of Palestinians, emphasizing the need for diplomatic dialogue to achieve a lasting solution. It reaffirmed support for the Jordanian custodianship of holy sites in Jerusalem and the efforts of the Al Quds Committee.
Regarding Iran, the Council condemned the occupation of UAE islands and supported the UAE’s sovereignty over them, urging Iran to engage in negotiations. On Iraq, the Council stressed the importance of respecting Kuwait’s sovereignty and called for adherence to international agreements and UN resolutions related to boundary demarcation and maritime navigation.
The Council also supported Security Council Resolution 2732 and emphasized the importance of following up on Kuwaiti humanitarian files. It suggested appointing a High-Level Coordinator to oversee these issues, urging Iraq to cooperate for a resolution.
