Doha: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi discussed in a phone call with Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres the developments in the Middle East and de-escalation efforts. During the call, the two sides discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, most notably the latest developments in the exchange of attacks between Iran and the Israeli entity, in addition to the efforts being made to achieve de-escalation and promote security and stability.
According to Qatar News Agency, the GCC Secretary-General affirmed the Council’s commitment to supporting international and UN efforts regarding the developments in the region, stressing the need for an immediate ceasefire, exercising maximum restraint, and sparing the region and its peoples the dangers of war.
Antonio Guterres praised the GCC’s positive role in supporting endeavours aimed at defusing the current situation and maintaining regional security, affirming the UN’s aspiration to strengthen cooperation with the GCC in various areas of common priority.
