BAGHDAD, Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi welcomed the decision of the International Football Association (FIFA) to allow the World Cup qualifiers in Basra, and called for intensified efforts to lift the comprehensive ban on Iraqi stadiums.
The Prime Minister’s Advisor for Youth and Sports Affairs Iyad Bunyan said in a press statement that Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi welcomed the recent decision of the International Football Federation to approve the nomination of Basra as the seat of the Iraqi national team in the World Cup preliminaries to be held in Qatar in 2022 “.
He added that the Prime Minister instructed all relevant government agencies to provide the necessary supplies and support necessary for this hosting and to move forward to the success of the task of our national team in these qualifiers and upcoming benefits.”
Abdul-Mahdi called on the masses of sports to assume their national responsibility to encourage the team in the best way that reflects the progress of Iraqi society, and in a manner that sends a message to the international community that we will remain a country of peace and meeting for all brothers and friends on our beloved land.
