Berlin: German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on Wednesday announced that his government plans to support Syria in its reconstruction endeavors by boosting economic cooperation. This development comes over six months after the collapse of the former Syrian regime.
According to Qatar News Agency, Wadephul revealed that during a conversation with Syria’s transitional government Foreign Minister Asaad Al Shaibani, an agreement was reached to form a German-Syrian Economic Cooperation Council. This announcement was made following a meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in Berlin. The German Foreign Ministry will oversee the coordination of the council’s activities.
Wadephul emphasized that the immediate goal is to enhance the economic infrastructure of Syria. He highlighted that Al Shaibani has assured a commitment to maintaining internal stability and equilibrium in Syria.
