BAGHDAD, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed that the security of the Gulf waters is the responsibility of the countries of the region itself, not the responsibility of foreign forces.
“We reaffirm Iran’s responsibility to maintain peace and stability in the region, and the military alliances are already defeated and foreign forces are preparing to destabilize the region,” the foreign minister said in a statement issued after a meeting with his Qatari counterpart Mohammed Abdul Rahman al-Thani in Doha.
During the meeting, Zarif stressed the importance of developing political and economic relations between the two countries, stressing the need to continue dialogue between Qatar and Iran regarding regional developments as a regional need.
For his part, the Qatari Foreign Minister said, “We emphasize the role of Qatar and Iran in bringing peace and stability to the region, and the need to strengthen joint cooperation with Tehran to strengthen the dialogue to resolve the problems of the region.”
