HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Attends HBKU’s Conference on AI Ethics

Doha: HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, attended the landmark conference AI Ethics: The Convergence of Technology and Diverse Moral Traditions. The event is hosted and organized by Hamad Bin Khalifa University at Qatar National Convention Centre and spans two days.

According to Qatar News Agency, the opening of the conference saw the attendance of HE Vice Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani, alongside ministers, dignitaries, and private sector leaders. The conference includes discussions across six thematic areas impacted by AI advancements-healthcare, urban design, security, education, finance, and the future workplace. Leading scholars, policymakers, and industry experts are exploring how AI’s rapid adoption worldwide affects cultures, traditions, and values.

HBKU President Dr. Ahmad M. Hasnah commented on the conference, emphasizing the urgent ethical questions posed by AI, such as the amplification of bias and underrepresentation issues. He stated that the conference is a pivotal step towards building international, cross-disciplinary collaborations to guide ethical AI development. The insights gathered aim to shape technologies that are innovative, inclusive, and responsible.

Keynotes, panels, plenary sessions, and policy roundtables are focusing on how cultural perspectives and moral traditions can inform cohesive frameworks for AI governance and responsible innovation. Experts are examining the urgent need for genuine collaboration to establish ethical standards reflecting humanity’s diversity and safeguarding dignity in all societies.

The conference bridges technological advancement and ethical imperatives, ensuring AI aligns with the moral landscapes shaping the modern world. It elevates alternative viewpoints beyond predominantly Western-centric discourse, fostering new partnerships to drive innovation and future field trajectories.

An opening plenary session featured a panel of experts focusing on the intersection of ethics with technology, moral traditions, and humanity’s future. The AI Ethics conference underscores HBKU’s role in Qatar’s leadership on ethics and AI regulation, reinforcing its position as a leader in education and research.

The conference is organized in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and strategic sponsor the Ministry of Public Health.
