Iranian Foreign Ministry: Talks with US to Remain Indirect with Omani Mediation

Tehran: Iran’s foreign ministry said Sunday that talks with the United States slated for next week will remain indirect with Omani mediation and focused solely on the nuclear issue and lifting of sanctions.

According to Qatar News Agency, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei mentioned that the negotiations will continue to be indirect, with Oman remaining the mediator. He added that discussions are currently centered around the venue of the upcoming negotiations.

Baqaei emphasized that the talks would only address the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions, indicating a clear focus for the upcoming engagements.

A new round of talks on the Iranian nuclear program between Washington and Tehran is scheduled for April 19. This follows a meeting held on Saturday where both parties agreed to convene again.

The Iranian delegation is being led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the US delegation is headed by US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

These negotiations represent the highest-level engagement on this issue since President Donald Trump, during his first term in 2018, decided to withdraw from the 2015 agreement between Iran and world powers, which had originally been established in exchange for lifting sanctions on Iran.
