The Ministry of Environment announced today, Friday, the opening of future cooperation horizons between Iraq and the United Kingdom in reducing climate change.
The Ministry stated, in a statement, that "Environment Minister Nizar Hamidi received the British Ambassador to Iraq, Stephen Hitchen, at the Ministry's headquarters, and congratulated him on assuming his duties as the British Ambassador to Baghdad."
During the meeting, according to the statement, they discussed enhancing joint cooperation between Iraq and the United Kingdom in the environment and climate change sector through implementing joint projects and programs that focus on protecting and improving the environment and helping Iraq implement its obligations in the Paris Climate Agreement.
According to the statement, the Minister referred to Iraq's preparations for the twenty-eighth Conference of the Parties on Climate Change in Dubai and Iraq's negotiating vision, stressing the Iraqi government's interest in benefiting from the technological expertise in the United Kingdom in implementing sustainable projects.
For his part, the British Ambassador stressed the interest of the United Kingdom government to cooperate with Iraq in the fields of energy and pollution control.
The two sides agreed, according to the statement, to “hold bilateral meetings for the delegations of the two countries during the Dubai Climate Conference to open future horizons of cooperation in the field of reducing the impact of climate change.”/End
