Iraqi Ministry of Planning on Sunday announced that a joint committee was formed between Iraq and the United Nations (UN) to follow up work in the field of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A statement issued by the ministry indicated that the announcement of forming the committee came after the meeting of Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Muhammad Ali Tamim with Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq Ghulam Isaczai.
The statement added that the meeting discussed a number of issues related to joint cooperation between Iraq and the UN organizations, especially with regard to the preparation of a joint action strategy for the next five years, the transfer of UN support to Iraq towards the development programs, and support for the priorities of the Iraqi government, foremost of which is facing the effects of climate change, providing drinking water, and achieving rural development.
The statement noted that the two sides agreed to form a joint committee to follow up work in the field of achieving SDGs, and to hold an expanded workshop with the participation of Iraqi authorities to discuss the general framework and details of the joint work strategy between Iraq and the United Nations.
