Doha: The continental governing body for the sport of arcHery announced the appointment of Qatar’s Jassim ShaHeen Al Sulaiti as Secretary-General of the continental federation for the next term, in a move that enhances the Asian and Qatari standing in the international sports scene.
According to Qatar News Agency, the appointment of Al Sulaiti, who also serves as Secretary-General of the Qatar Shooting and ArcHery Federation, Vice-President of the Arab ArcHery Federation, and a member of the Executive Committee of the West Asian ArcHery Federation, is an international recognition of his extensive administrative experience and successes in developing arcHery at both the local level in Qatar and across Asia.
This move is also seen as a culmination of Qatar’s efforts to support specialized sports and enhance their administrative efficiency. Al Sulaiti will take over from the former Secretary-General and will be responsible for the day-to-day executive management of the WAA, overseeing the organization of continental championships, working to develop and spread the sport throughout Asia, and promoting cooperation between member national federations.
In a statement marking the occasion, Al Sulaiti said that his appointment to the Asian position came thanks to the support of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), Headed by HE QOC President SHeikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, for the sport of shooting, stressing at the same time that the presence of Qatari talents in Arab, Asian, and international positions is evidence of the development of Qatari shooting.
Al Sulaiti pointed out that among the key factors in winning this position is the reputation that Qatari sports enjoy regionally and internationally through its hosting of major tournaments, as well as the efficiency and excellence of Qatari personnel in various sports sectors. He noted the importance of combining efforts and harnessing all capabilities to advance this sport at the Asian level on all fronts.
