Journalists Syndicate: The Netanyahu government’s closure of Al Jazeera’s offices continues the genocide without witnesses

Ramallah – Together – The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the decision of the war and extremist government in the Israeli occupation entity to close the Al Jazeera office in Palestine, as a war crime added to its historical crimes against our Palestinian people.

The union issued a press statement today, Sunday, in which it said, ‘The decision of the occupation government led by Netanyahu, Ben Gvir, and Smotrich and the war and terrorism gang makes it easier to target media institutions with death, as 135 male and female colleagues from the Palestinian media have become martyrs by the occupation’s fire since the aggression against our people since last October.’ Which was preceded by a long series of assassinations, crimes, attacks and violations against journalists since the Palestinian Nakba in 1948.

The union considered the decision to close the offices of Al Jazeera as another indication that the occupation forces continue to commit massacres and genocide against our Palestinian people in Gaz
a, the West Bank and the territories occupied in 1948 without witnesses and without documentation or media follow-up, with the destruction and closure of about 85 media institutions and offices in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

The union confirmed that this decision represents a great danger to the lives of journalists working on Al Jazeera, and in all international and local media outlets, and that it came as the second anniversary of the martyrdom of journalist Sherine Abu Aqla, daughter of Al Jazeera, approaches.

The Journalists Syndicate holds the Netanyahu government fully responsible for the life of any journalist, whether Palestinian, Arab, or foreigner, working in Palestine.

The Syndicate appealed to the International Federation of Journalists, UNESCO, the Human Rights Council, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations to intervene and provide protection for media institutions in Palestine in accordance with international treaties and conventions approved by the United Nations.

The union
expressed its full solidarity with Al Jazeera Channel and its readiness, along with its committees and crews, to work in supporting male and female colleagues in all union and legal ways and capabilities.
