The Cultural Village Foundation – Katara announced the opening of registration for the 9th edition of the Senyar Festival’s pearl diving and fishing contests, with registration remaining open until April 13, whereas the festival itself is going to take place from May 2-5.

The Senyar Festival organizing committee set out the conditions for registration including: having a wooden boat (traditional or modern dhow) equipped with navigation systems and safety facilities with a valid license, while every team should consist of 8-12 participants.

Participants must be Qatari nationals with 4 participants per team permitted to being from different nationalities: 2 participants from other Gulf Corporation Council countries, whilst the other 2 being residents of Qatar.

Team name registration will be on a first-come first-serve basis, and all participants must submit a medical examination certificate.

Organizing the Senyar Festival is part of Katara’s efforts to revive and preserve the Qatari cultural maritime heritage.
