Mathaf Concludes Spring 2025 Exhibitions Ahead of August 9 Deadline

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art: Arab Museum of Modern Art invited the public to explore three of its current exhibitions which will close on August 9.

According to Qatar News Agency, the exhibitions were inaugurated as part of the Qatar Creates Spring/Summer 2025 season. They include “Qatar: Close to my Soul, Art from the Collection of Abdulla bin Ali bin Saud Al-Thani,” “Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices,” and “Wafa Al Hamad: Sites of Imagination.”

“Qatar: Close to my Soul, Art from the Collection of Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani” exhibition presents paintings, sculptures, and installations alongside archival materials that collectively narrate the story and history of Qatari art, artists, and movements. The exhibition, curated by Fatma Mostafawi, features significant works and artists, highlighting various artistic approaches that have emerged since the 1960s.

“Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices,” curated by Matthieu Orlean, showcases works from more than 40 filmmakers and video artists from the Arab world, Africa, Southeast Asia, and other regions within the Global South. The exhibition delves into themes of exile, migration, and the complex dynamics of transnational crossings, guiding visitors through seven galleries, each with its own theme.

The “Wafa Al Hamad: Sites of Imagination” exhibition honors the late Qatari artist known for her experimentation with abstraction and the Arabic letter. It also highlights other pioneering Arab female artists such as Naziha Salem, Samia Halaby, Madiha Omar, and Balqees Fakhro. This exhibition is curated by Lina Ramadan.

This year is marked by Evolution Nation, an 18-month campaign celebrating Qatar’s cultural journey, from the founding of the National Museum to the thriving ecosystem of institutions it represents today.
