MECC and Umm Salal SC Launch Initiative to Enhance Environmental Sustainability in Qatar.

Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) has partnered with Umm Salal SC to roll out an initiative fostering a sustainable ecosystem in Qatar. This collaboration aims to protect gardens across the country, aligning with the Qatar National Vision 2030. The agreement was formalized by MECC’s Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Natural Reserves Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Maslamani, and HE Umm Salal SC Vice President, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani. The signing was also attended by HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, and HE Umm Salal SC President, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

According to Qatar News Agency, the initiative reflects a mutual commitment to advancing sustainability through joint efforts. It sets forth strategic goals such as garden fencing to prevent encroachment, planting native flora to combat desertification, and conducting societal awareness-raising and volunteering ca
mpaigns. Dr. Al Maslamani emphasized that this initiative would strengthen national efforts to protect gardens, highlighting MECC’s ongoing projects to preserve the environment and safeguard biodiversity. He also mentioned that the ministry would provide necessary facilities, technical expertise, and awareness programs to support the initiative.

Meanwhile, HE Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani praised the collaboration with MECC as part of Umm Salal SC’s social responsibility and active participation in national environmental protection efforts. He underscored the significant link between sports and ecology, stressing the importance for athletes to engage in environment-friendly practices and avoid actions that could harm sustainability.
