Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) is participating in the 13th edition of the Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ), organized by the Ministry of Municipality at the Katara Cultural Village, from 12 to 16 February.
According to Qatar News Agency, the ministry's participation includes a dedicated pavilion showcasing its efforts to raise environmental awareness, promote sustainability concepts, and protect biodiversity. The pavilion highlights the ministry's role in supporting environmental innovation and encouraging sustainable practices.
Dr. Farhoud Al Hajri, Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department at the ministry, stated that participating in the exhibition represents an important opportunity to enhance engagement with the community. It allows the ministry to highlight its environmental initiatives, contributing to spreading a culture of sustainability and raising awareness of the importance of protecting natural resources and biodiversity in Qatar.
Al Hajri explained that the pavilion includes a collection of wild and aquatic plants and introduces the "Seed Scattering" initiative aimed at supporting natural vegetation. It also features the "Rawda Fencing" initiative, which seeks to protect natural areas and enhance their environmental sustainability.
Additionally, the pavilion highlights the national campaign to remove the invasive Prosopis juliflora tree as part of the ministry's efforts to limit the spread of non-native species and maintain ecological balance. A digital interactive screen displays a map of Qatar showing whale aggregation areas, turtle nesting sites, dugong habitats, and information on natural reserves, islands, and freshwater marshes.
Khalid Al Mohannadi, Director of the Wildlife Department at the Ministry of Environment, said that the pavilion reflects the ministry's ongoing efforts to protect wildlife and terrestrial and marine ecosystems. These initiatives and projects are aimed at conserving biodiversity and promoting the sustainability of natural habitats, in line with national environmental protection strategies.
Al Mohannadi added that the ministry's participation in the exhibition aligns with its vision to enhance community engagement and encourage individuals to adopt environmentally friendly behaviors, supporting sustainable development for current and future generations.
