Doha: The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Doha will host a series of lectures that highlight the rich heritage of the Kingdom of Morocco as part of the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture. The Archaeology Department at Qatar Museums (QM) will present two lectures on Nov. 4 and 19 in the Museum of Islamic Art Auditorium (MIA-A).
According to Qatar News Agency, Assistant Professor in the Islamic Archeology Department at the National Institute of Archaeology and Heritage (INSAP) in Rabat, Dr. Asmae El Kacimi, will deliver a lecture on Monday titled “Revealing the Art of Colours in Bilad al-Maghrib.” This lecture will provide an archaeological study of Islamic murals from the 8th to 14th centuries and address the intertwined relationship between decorative elements and their architectural settings, with a focus on technical and material aspects.
The second lecture, titled “Underwater Archaeology,” will explore Morocco’s rich maritime heritage, with a focus on the passion for archaeological research and the respon
sibility for preservation. The lecture will be held on Nov. 19 and delivered by the Director of the National Center for Studies and Research on Underwater Heritage in Rabat and Professor at Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fes, Dr. Azzedine Kara.
The lecture series brings together a selection of researchers and scholars from prestigious institutions, such as INSAP and the National Center for Studies and Research on Underwater Heritage, both located in Rabat. This event aims to promote intellectual exchange between academics and history enthusiasts from Morocco and Qatar on a shared heritage.
As this collaboration reflects the mutual commitment to archaeological research, it also promotes bilateral cultural dialogue between the two countries. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the Years of Culture initiative to deepen understanding and promote respect between diverse cultures.
This series of lectures is in line with QM’s research project to explore the characteristics of marine environment
s, which is characterized by revealing the fascinating world found deep in Moroccan waters.
