Cali: HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the State of Qatar Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie participated in two high-level ministerial sessions held as part of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Cali, Colombia. During these sessions, he called for the integration of international policies to prevent conflicts related to climate action and biodiversity, emphasizing that fragmentation in these policies weakens their effectiveness.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Minister stressed the importance of addressing capacity-building challenges for developing countries and ensuring the transfer and localization of necessary technologies. This approach aims to achieve and implement the agreements’ objectives in alignment with their goals. He highlighted Qatar’s ongoing efforts to update its biodiversity plan by 2025, ensuring its alignment with international commitments under the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Kunming-Montre
al Global Biodiversity Framework, as well as Qatar’s Third National Development Plan, set to conclude in 2030.
Additionally, the Minister highlighted Qatar’s collaboration with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) in establishing a biodiversity database project. This initiative aims to support the Biodiversity Information Exchange Mechanism through an advanced electronic system that operates on national, regional, and international levels.
