Ministry of Municipality Marks World Food Day 2024

Doha: The Ministry of Municipality’s Food Security Department has held an awareness event to mark the World Food Day 2024.

The event showcased the State of Qatar’s food security efforts and featured the participation of several relevant entities. It aimed to achieve a flexible, sustainable and fair food system by 2030.

Assistant Director of the Food Security Department, Hamad Hadi Al Hajri, said in a speech that the State of Qatar is keen to share the world in the World Food Day celebrations.

World Food Day is marked annually on October 16, coinciding the anniversary of the founding of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1945. This year’s celebration comes under the slogan “The Right to foods for a better life and a better future, to reflect the global commitment to eliminating hunger and achieving food security.

He explained that the State of Qatar seeks to achieve international solidarity by providing support to local food producers, and providing necessary production inputs, such as organ
ic and chemical fertilizers, and pesticides to farmers, and supporting them in marketing their products to ensure achieving the best prices and reducing food loss.

It also supports livestock producers by providing necessary feed and medicines, in addition to supporting the fish sector through investment facilities in fish farming and providing the necessary equipment for fishing, he added.

He highlighted the orchestrated efforts of the Ministry of Municipality and the FAO, to launch food systems dialogue, with the aim of charting paths of transformation towards sustainable food systems, adding that these efforts represent Qatars steadfast commitment to achieving a better food future for all peoples.

In the same context, Vice-Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Kuwari, gave a visual presentation on the right to food and the reasons for the lack of safe food, including climate change, food waste, and others, stressing the need to find solutions to these challenges.

He also
discussed the efforts of the State of Qatar in achieving food security and self-sufficiency.
