MOI Undersecretary: Ministry Committed to Consolidating Human Rights, Empowering People with Disabilities

HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior (MOI) Abdullah bin Khalaf bin Hattab Al Kaabi affirmed the Ministrys keenness and commitment to respecting and consolidating human rights, supporting and empowering the rights of people with disabilities within the framework of an integrated system that protects and nurtures these rights.

In a press statement while attending the opening of the 2nd national forum for human rights on Tuesday, His Excellency said the MOI is one of the state institutions concerned with consolidating human rights and working within an integrated system in the country, adding that the Ministry is committed to the principles and laws of human rights in its field of work and jurisdiction, in addition to caring for the rights of persons with disabilities.

HE stressed that the issue of promoting and protecting human rights represents a priority for MOI, in light of what was emphasized in the Qatar National Vision 2030, the first Qatar National Development Strategy 2011-2016, and the Second Qatar National Development Strategy 2018 - 2022, which included important topics affecting major human rights issues in various fields.

HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior explained that the Ministry pays increasing attention to the issue of promoting and protecting human rights and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, and has achieved great successes in this field over the past years.

He added that the Ministry was the first to pay attention to the people with disabilities and provide services to them, so it opened employment fields for them in its various departments through a special office affiliated with the Human Resources Department that takes care of them provides services to them, in addition to allocating special counters in various service departments to complete the transactions of visitors from this important category.

His Excellency pointed out that the Ministrys services include all persons with disabilities in all fields, including the service of receiving reports from the deaf category through a special emergency number (992).

In this context, HE explained that the Ministry has qualified a number of its male and female employees working at the National Command Center to learn sign language, in addition to developing its electronic services that helped them complete their transactions through available electronic means, including the Metrash2 application service which allows people with disabilities who are blind and visually impaired to complete their daily transactions for the services provided by MOI with ease.

The Ministry of Interior, represented by a number of its concerned departments, participates in the work of the 2nd national forum for human rights which is organized by the National Human Rights Committee over two days in partnership with several entities in the country.
